| Project Description: |
The new railway infrastructure consists of the following two lines:
- Shidiya-Batn El-Ghoul: 35km long link to carry the phosphate from the Shidiya mines to the port of Aqaba
- Aqaba-Wadi II: 25km long link to enable the yearly railing of a 7.5 million ton production by the year 2005.
The project also included a study of Wadi II link, another short connection for the transport of goods and material from the Aqaba port to the factories in Wadi II area. This link is of a 16km length. The environmental impact assessment was conducted according to World Bank guidelines. It included conducting a baseline survey, assessing the impact of implementing and operating the proposed links, and proposing mitigating measures to counteract negative impact caused by the project |

Shidiya Link: Feasibility study, environmental impact assessment and design.
Wadi II Link: environmental impact assessment, design of flood protection works, and design of bridges, tunnels and buildings. Wadi II Link-new route: Analysis of the technical feasibility study of the modifications concerning the relocation of Aqaba Port towards the Wadi II industrial area and the relocation of the fertilizer plant railway terminal. The project also included conducting studies, preliminary design of railway terminals and evaluation of construction costs for all alternatives |
